A Day at the Pool : Francis Ford Coppola Winery
Escaping San Francisco's foggy, breezy, changeable weather is usually high on every city-dweller's wish list this time of year. While the rest of the country is welcoming summer with long, sunny days, we're often battling strong winds and cloudy skies. One of Sonoma's best kept secrets lies tucked away into some of the most picturesque vineyards in the region.
The pool at the Francis Ford Coppola Winery is movie-set-perfect, and feels more like you're hanging poolside at a fabulous friend's private estate than fighting tourists for space at a crowded Wine Country attraction. The lounge chairs are very comfortable, the staff friendly, and the drinks amazing.
First things first, you'll probably want a reservation. There's a small grassy lawn area that's first come, first serve and some cafe tables and chairs, but if you want a lounge chair and the full luxe experience, you really need a reservation. I booked mine back in April, the day they open the reservations for summer, and last time I checked there were only random weekday cabine reservations left. I'm already plotting a sick day so I can head back up. It really is that good.
A cabine reservation gets you four lounge chairs, two umbrellas, a private shower and changing room a couple free little gifts, including personal cans of Sofia Rose upon arrival. Cabines are $200/four people. Grab your three besties and prepare for a day in the sunshine. Try the Clarita, a scoop of frozen lemon slush dropped into a glass of red, it's surprisingly tasty and fresh.
If you're searching for summer, the pool at the Francis Ford Coppola Winery is perfect. I honestly wouldn't change a thing--unless they're willing to let me move in for the summer. Cheers!
