Highlights of 2017
It's a little belated, but with a new year comes reflection. This year came with plenty of highs but more than a few lows.
2017 was the year of tropical beaches and exploration. Oahu, Maui, Singapore and Koh Samui all made the list, as well as some local trips to wine country and SoCal. But, mixed in with the sweet were the tender and bitter. My grandmother passed away in November, right before Thanksgiving, and people close to me are struggling with illness and hardship.
My grandmother's death was a great opportunity for reflection. My sister and I went through bags of old photographs and found cards her and my grandfather re-used annually for birthdays and their wedding anniversary. Reading all their sweet messages, and seeing the beauty captured in their snapshots was the perfect way to remember my grandmother. It's easy to forget that everyone is multi-faceted. You may know someone as your mom, or a coworker, but they're a combination of roles and people just like you are. My grandmother was a daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, aunt, coworker, grandmother, great grandmother and pillar in her community.
I'm lucky to have spent 2017 surrounded by amazing friends and family. I got to travel across the world with friends to watch two amazing people get married. I got to spend several weeks in Hawaii appreciating good food, friends and nature. I designed a bedroom update for my parents and implemented it in a weekend with my mom. I've taken thousands of photos, and I've gotten to share my life here, with you.
Cheers to 2018, and thanks for the good times and lessons on reflection 2017.
