What to Wear in June in San Francisco
It's June! While the rest of the Northern Hemisphere is busy welcoming summer with bare legs, tan shoulders and long summer nights outside, San Franciscans are busy scrounging around their closets for an extra sweater.
Welcome back Karl the Fog! We missed you! Except, we didn't. After a few glorious weekends of warmth, sunshine and summer, we've arrived back at winter. And a jacket is necessary. Feel free to insert that cliche, and miss attributed quote about SF summer here.
It can be difficult to get out a winter coat again when it seems like everyone else is basking in the sun. But, if you hadn't noticed, SF in June/July isn't the greatest--weather wise. Sure, there are plenty of street fairs and cool things happening, but seriously don't leave home without a jacket. The days start out cold and foggy, sometimes get sunny around lunch (if you're on the east side of The City, but if you're on the west side just forget about that thing called sun), and then the wind starts to pick up around 2 p.m. Evening windchill plunges the temps down to 50ish. It's cold.
I hate busting my wool coat out in the summer, so I usually stick to my Uniqlo packable down jacket or a classic leather one. It also helps to have a few fresh sweaters in spring/summer tones. It's SF after all--you can never have too many sweaters. I love mixing summer colors and textures in with my SF staples, and I'm seriously craving this Bembien Rattan Rose Bag. There are actually cheaper options on Etsy too, just search round rattan bag. A scarf with a tropical print can also help channel summer vibes, just don't count on it to keep you warm!
Stay cozy with a few layers, and remember our summer is coming! It just arrives a little late.
