There's a new Alps-inspired wine bar and eatery in North Beach, and it's awesome. There's a fire pit, a beautiful interior, and some really good wine. From the team behind Little Vine and Union Larder, The Salzburg offers up Austrian food and inspired wines in probably the coziest space in San Francisco.
I might be biased because Union Larder is one of my favorite places in The City, and Little Vine (on Grant Ave. just up the street from The Salzburg) is the perfect tiny wine, cheese and misc. food items stop. The fire pit out back is easily the best part, and is the only one I know about that's public, on a back patio (instead of roof deck) and actually generates warmth. There are string lights and plenty of tables, but if it's too chilly outside the inside of the bar is just as dreamy.
The Alpine-inspired apres ski feel keeps it cozy, while the minimal, clean decor lets the food and wine shine. There are comfy booths for friends and a handy standing area near the back with a small shelf for your drink and hooks for bags. The bar couldn't be more perfect for the holidays, but the outdoor space is quickly becoming a go-to for me. I'm sure the fire pit will be extra crowded this summer, when Karl the Fog rolls in thick.
