Outfit Crisis : Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Picks
It's officially the best shopping time of the year! Unlike Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or the day after Christmas, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale doens't discount leftover items. Instead, Nordstrom puts a ton of their new pre-fall and fall merchandise on sale! Everything from exclusive make-up sets and fall-ready boots and jackets to men's, kid's and home items are all on sale.
It's a great time to stock up on pricier items--the bigger the price tag the bigger the discount. It's also a great time to stock up on boots and shoes, designer denim, simple basics like t-shirts, and comfy sweaters. They also have great discounts on handbags and beauty gadgets. I usually try to stop shopping a couple months before the sale (which always starts mid-July) in order to save up. The best part of this whole event is that if you're a Nordstrom card holder you get to shop in store and online before everyone else. This way, you're pretty much guaranteed to find your size. Like always shipping both ways is free.
Living in SF means that I'm always looking for warm layers, well-made denim and comfy shoes for walking. Since The City is usually cool and breezy fall clothes are perfect for most days. This makes shopping the pre-fall sale even better! I know I'll wear what I buy a million times before it finally wears out. Below I've linked a bunch of my picks for the 2016 #Nsale, and some thought behind why I chose certain pieces. Let me know if you're planning on shopping the sale!
Denim : This is normally my go-to, #1 Nordstrom Sale shopping category. There have been years where this is the only time I've purchased denim. I'm a hardcore designer denim lover, but I'm also super picky about styles, cut, washes and level of distress. I tend to steer clear of trendy items when I'm paying more, so usually I avoid colored jeans, jeans with metallic or waxed finishes, really distressed pairs (they always get more distressed as you wear them...), and anything with unflattering pockets. This year I'm a little disappointed there aren't more classic, simple styles to choose from, but there are a couple solid choices for my dedicated skinny jean lovers. Both Joe's Jeans and Paige Denim are well represented, but I wish there were more distress-free options from AG. I have been on the hunt for some lightly distressed black jeans, and there are a pair of Citizens that I'm considering.
Boots : If you're in the market for an amazing, comfy, better-with-wear riding boot, the Frye Melissa Button Boot should be first on your list. I bought a pair last year and wore them almost daily in the winter. They don't really need to be broken in, they look amazing as they wear, and--I'll say it again--they're super comfy! This year they're on sale for $246, which is nearly $120 off! If you're looking for some over-the-knee boots this Corso Como pair look awesome! Sizes are already selling out online, so snatch them up if you're on the fence--you can always return later. If you're looking for black riding boots, there's a Tory Burch pair on sale for $299 that look sleek and modern while still being classic. They're a little more than the Frye's, and I can't personally speak to their comfort, but they look amazing.
Flats (+ a pair of booties!) : Again, city walker that I am, comfy flats are a must! I tried these Halogen lace up flats on in-store a few weeks before the sale to check my size, and I'm so happy I did! I'm trying to decide which color to get, but all the options are good choices. I'm a big fan of Vince Camuto, and these perforated flats look super comfy and are only $70!
Other Amazing Things : There are more than 3,000 women's items--and there are a ton of awesome deals mixed in. I buy a pair of these leggings every year. They're super soft, keep their shape, and aren't see through at all! I've been eyeing a Clarisonic for ages now, and they have a few options on sale for under $100. There are some really cute pieces in the home department, and tons of items that make great gifts!
