Have you ever come across a company or store where you want pretty much everything? Have you also been able to afford it all? ASOS was that for me. I discovered the site a couple months ago, and I've ordered quite a few things so far. I love their saved items option, since I'm the kind of person that saves things online forever before doing research and finally ordering. I also love that they offer such a wide variety of looks and brands. Their shipping is fast and everything comes in a small bag. (Living in an apartment in The City I really, really appreciate small, compact packaging!)
I've been scouring Rent The Runway, Shopbop and Nordstrom for wedding guest attire, since wedding season is now in full swing! For the San Francisco city wedding I just attended this past weekend, I wanted something short and fun, and I didn't want black. Since the ceremony and reception are both close to my apartment, I knew the venue and wanted something comfy that fit in with the urban atmosphere. We're also planning on going out on Polk Street with the bride and groom after the reception, so I didn't want anything too fancy.
Searching through pages and pages of dresses I was drawn to a brand I was unfamiliar with over and over again. Enter Vila, a Danish street-style-inspired brand. ASOS carries a bunch of their stuff, and they might be the only retailer in the U.S. that does. Their dresses are urban, young and unique. They're trendy while still being classic. Best of all, the price point was perfect. I didn't see anything I wanted that was over $75. Their party dresses are colorful and feminine. I wound up ordering two and planned on returning one. If you hit the order threshold your ASOS order ships free both ways!
I had absolutely no idea what size to get (I'm usually a dress size 4), so I started researching the brand online. I couldn't find much, and thought that I'd be safe getting a small. Unfortunately, by the time I decided both dresses I wanted were sold out in small. I wound up ordering an extra small in one dress and a medium in the other. They were the only sizes left, and I figured at least one would fit. Both are pretty unstructured and loose. Surprisingly both fit, and now I'm having trouble deciding which to keep and which to send back. (SPOILER ALERT: I think I'm keeping both!)
I think my favorite is the navy lace off the shoulder dress. It's fun and classic with just a touch of a boho/romatic vibe. This is the dress I chose to wear to the SF wedding, and it fit in perfectly at the venue! I got tons of compliments on it, and was comfy throughout the night. Bonus: This dress is basically wrinkle free, and the elastic band under the bust makes it super comfy.
The peach dress is super cute and very flattering, but I wish there was a zipper for easier on/off. The only other downside is that ironing it is a pain! I've been meaning to invest in a handheld steamer for ages, and that would have made ironing it much easier. It also seemed to get wrinkled again super fast, which is pretty annoying since the creases are super noticeable. I love the cut and the color so much! I didn't end up ordering the floral one, but am still seriously considering it. Ironically, that's the only dress they have all the sizes left in that made it to my narrowed down list, but I decided that light floral wasn't the vibe I was looking for. I still might end up getting it, but I just won't be wearing it to this wedding.
