I love going on long drives, just as long as it doesn't mean long stretches of sitting in traffic. I'm heading to sunny San Diego for Thanksgiving, and I'm driving! Fingers crossed traffic won't be bad and everything with the rental car works out. I've been making this long, sometimes arduous drive since I moved here almost 10 years ago, and it really never goes fast. It does help to have a couple of essential on hand.
Traveling with the boyfriend means stocking the car with food. Or stopping every 1.5 hours. Don't skimp on this. Seriously. Packing some yummy, healthy snacks makes skipping the candy at the gas station that much easier. Beef jerky, fruit, spam masubi, a bottle of water. If you check off salty and sweet you're pretty much set.
I love Spotify, but depending on where you're going you might still think about loading up your old iPod with some songs. There are places in the mountains, on Highway 1, near Mendocino and even in the Central Valley where you don't even get radio, let alone 3G.
Leggings are not pants--unless you'll be sitting in the car for eight+ hours. In that case, leggings are the only pants. I love, love, love these Zella leggings. Totally not see through. Totally comfy. Totally reversible. Throw on a cozy sweater, flannel or gigantic coat. Boom. Car-ready and ultra comfy.
- Layers for dealing with different body temps vs car temps
- Lip balm
- Blanket scarf (or actual blanket...)
- Cash (just in case!)
- Makeup remover wipes or oil blotting sheets. In case you get really greasy and just can't anymore.
- Phone charger/aux hookup/etc.
- Hand sanitizer (gas stations are gross...)
- A comfy bra/bralette
Safe travels this Thanksgiving! Cheers!
